Alabama businesses receive Hire Vets Medallion Awards MONTGOMERY – 34 Alabama companies have received awards from the 2022 Hire Vets Medallion Program, an official program of the U.S. Department of Labor. These awards are the only federal veteran employment awards that recognize a company or organization’s commitment to the hiring, retention, and professional development of veterans.
“Alabama is home to nearly 400,000 veterans who have risked everything to protect the liberties that make the United States the greatest country on earth,” said Governor Ivey. “As a society, it is our duty to support these American heroes as they transition from their careers in ministry to what they choose to pursue next, and I’m proud to see so many great companies in Alabama have done just that.” ” “Our mission always includes prioritizing our veterans. We take that very seriously, and every year I’m proud to see Alabama step up and make that extra effort to hire these amazing men and women,” said Fitzgerald Washington, secretary of the Alabama Department of Labor. “The criteria for winning these awards are rigorous and require a high level of dedication. I’m proud that Alabama has had so many recipients of this award.” Nationwide, 835 companies were recognized for their commitment to veteran recruitment. The honored companies are also commended for having a long-term career and growth plan that leverages the diverse skills they have acquired during their military service. The Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017 (HIRE Vets Act or the Act) required the US Secretary of Labor to establish a program that recognizes employers’ efforts to recruit, employ and retain veterans. Employer applicants who meet the criteria will receive a HIRE Vets Medallion Award. Recognition criteria vary by tier (platinum or gold) and employer size (large, medium, and small). Large employers have more than 500 employees, medium-sized employers have 51-499 employees, and small employers have 50 or fewer employees. There are also two tiers of rewards: gold and platinum.
