PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Freshman Brandon Miller scored 17 of his 24 points in the first half, and No. 18 Alabama drew 81-70 against No. 12 Michigan State in the opening round of the Phil Knight Invitational Thursday night. After a rather loose schedule in the first few weeks, Alabama (5-0) passed its first test of the season against the under-manned Spartans (3-2). Noah Gurley added 12 points, and Noah Clowney and Jahvon Quinerly both finished with 10 points. Tyson Walker led Michigan State with 21 points and AJ Hoggard added 18.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Michigan State forward Malik Hall will be sidelined for about three weeks due to a stress reaction in his left foot. The school announced the news Friday before the No. 12 Spartans’ game against No. 18 Alabama in the opening round of the Phil Knight Invitational. The Spartans are also not expected to have Jaden Akins as their star guard against the Crimson Tide. Hall was uncomfortable with his foot after Michigan State’s win over Villanova last week, and further testing revealed the injury. No surgery is required. Hall averaged 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in four games this season.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The much-anticipated, high-stakes matchup between No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan is looming. The Buckeyes and Wolverines will be playing for the Big Ten East title and a spot in the conference championship game, where one of them will be the big favorite and one win away from making the college football playoffs. If The Game goes as expected at the Horseshoe on Saturday, it will join the long list of memorable moments in a series dating back to 1897.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Tanner Groves posted a season-high 17 points, Jacob Groves added 16 and Oklahoma defeated Nebraska 69-56 to open the ESPN Events Invitational. The Groves brothers scored 13 of Oklahoma’s last 17 points in the first half to take a 41-34 lead. Jacob Groves had 12 points in the first half. ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Charges have been filed against seven Michigan State football players stemming from a scuffle in Michigan Stadium tunnel last month. That’s according to a statement from the Washtenaw County Attorney’s Office. Michigan State player Khary Crump faces the most serious charge – criminal assault. Charges against the six other players are administrative offenses. Five are charged with aggravated assault and one with assault and assault. The incident happened on October 29, when several members of the Michigan State soccer team beat up two Michigan players. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh had previously said he expected the suspended Spartans to be charged.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The stakes couldn’t be higher when No. 3 Michigan visits No. 2 state Ohio. A win for 11-0 Ohio State or 11-0 means a trip to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship and keeps national championship hopes alive. Both teams go unbeaten for the first time since 2006. It’s arguably the biggest game of the series since 2016, when Ohio State and Michigan shared the same standings as they do now.
