BOBCAT BITES: Montana State and Abilene Christian have never met, while the Bobcats and North Texas first met at the Cal Poly Holiday Beach Classic last season. The Mean Green rebounded from a 37-20 deficit to an 87-78 win over the Bobcats… Leia Beattie posted a career-high 27 points as the Bobcats defeated San Jose State 74-65 in overtime Tuesday night defeated. For the competition, Beattie hit 10 of 19 from the field, 4 of 10 from afar, and 3 of 3 at the line.
THE SCOUTING REPORT: Abilene Christian is 2-2 overall with wins over Howard Payne (89-37) and Southwest NM (77-36). Wildcat losses came at Rice (85-69) and at UTSA (76-70). ACU was led by Maleeah Langstaff, who averages 14.3 points while shooting 57.1%. Langstaff is a 5-11 college student from Asheville, NC. The forward is second in the roster and is averaging 4.8 rebounds per game. The Wildcats are members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). North Texas is 1-2 overall and plays Louisiana before facing the Bobcats. UNT’s victory was a 71-58 decision over Texas A&M-Texarkana. Losses were suffered by Stephen F. Austin and the State of Wichita. Quincy Noble leads the team with 16.7 ppg. UNT plays in Conference-USA (C-USA).
REMARKABLE: Montana State earned 14 points in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Cats rank No. 39 in the poll, just behind No. 38 Texas A&M Corpus Christi and UC Irvine. Florida Gulf Coast is #1 with 764 points, followed by Gonzaga (733) at #2 and future MSU opponent South Dakota State at #3 with 699 points.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME: For the past 10 seasons, the Bobcats have performed well in the warm confines of Worthington Arena. Since the 2012-13 season, Montana State has recorded an impressive 106-31 (77.4%) overall and 72-22 (76.6%) in Big Sky Conference play on its home court. During that span — from the start of the 2015-16 Big Sky season to the start of the 2017-18 league games — MSU has enjoyed a 19-game winning streak on home court in Big Sky action.
