Butte’s companies are gearing up for Small Business Saturday

The “small business world” of the mining town is getting ready for the holidays and everyone is in a festive spirit.

The Headwaters Small Business Development Center and Butte Local Development Center, along with the Butte Chamber of Commerce and America’s Small Business Development Center Montana, are helping spread that joy by hosting Small Business Saturday host.

Small Business Saturday, a national trend, always occurs two days after Thanksgiving and encourages holiday shoppers to support the many small businesses in their community. It’s also a reminder of the significant impact small businesses have on communities across the country and how important they are to Butte’s economy.

Here in Butte, nearly 65 small businesses, some apartment-based, others uptown, will participate.

Stephanie Sorini, director of the Butte-Silver Bow Chamber of Commerce, said it’s imperative that residents shop locally and Small Business Saturday is the perfect time to start doing so.

“It’s the start of the holiday season,” Sorini said.

According to Sorini, these small businesses have made big investments in Butte and rely on our patronage.

“It’s important to support the companies that support us,” she said.

BLDC Executive Director Kelly Sullivan is confident that this year’s Small Business Saturday will be a success.

“We’re excited to be partnering again with small businesses in our community to promote the importance of shopping small,” Sullivan said.

An even greater incentive to shop locally on Small Business Saturday is that shoppers have a chance to win one of several gift baskets made available by local businesses.

“Our mission is to help small businesses thrive,” said Courtney Loeffler, SBDC Director, “and this event is the perfect opportunity to help them do that.”

Throughout the day, shoppers can stop by any participating store to pick up a Shop Small card. Get your card stamped for every store you enter and win a ticket for a raffle. No purchase is necessary. Make a purchase too and get an extra stamp that earns the shopper another ticket. All of these tickets are potential basket winners and must be submitted by 4:15 p.m. See your Shop Small card for more contest rules.

The draws will take place during a celebration of Butte’s many great retail outlets from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 224 W. Park St. Appetizers will be served and prize draws will begin marked at 4:30pm.
