The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula raises money through its Preserving Pieces of Our Past initiative to support the continued preservation of more than 50,000 items in its collection.
“Many objects in our collection require special care to keep them in excellent condition, including some very large pieces,” says a press release. “Some large items require their own covered structures, like our trolley and train, while others need to find space in our storage rooms for collection.”

The Big Sky Economic Development Trust (BTSF) recently provided grant funding for job creation, planning and workforce training to seven communities across Montana, including Missoula, Polson, Ronan and Kalispell.

According to a press release, the money will be given to local and tribal governments through the Montana Department of Commerce to create high-paying jobs.
Missoula County received $55,000 to support Silixa, LLC with payback, rent reduction, equipment, furniture and software that will result in the creation of 11 net new jobs over two years.
Polson’s Rocky Mountain Twist Corporation received $202,500 for equipment and the creation of 27 new jobs over a year.
Rocky Mountain Twist Corporation also received funding to train up to 18 new full-time positions over two years in Ronan.
Kalispell’s Montana West Economic Development received $26,250 to assist Meat Production Inc. with a feasibility study.
“This BSTF grant funding will help these Montana businesses plan for their future growth, create new opportunities through employee training, and create long-term jobs for workers in these communities,” said Scott Osterman, director of the Montana Department of Commerce, in the press release.
Missoula’s Providence St. Patrick Hospital was recognized for outstanding patient care for the ninth year in a row.
St. Pat’s announced it has received Healthgrades’ 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, placing the hospital in the top 5% of hospitals in the country for patient experience, according to a press release.
“We are proud to receive top marks for our efforts to ensure we provide the highest quality and safest care to our patients,” said Joyce Dombrouski, executive director of Providence Montana, in the press release. “This is the ninth year in a row that we have received this outstanding award and I am proud of every member of our team.”
In addition, Healthgrades’ Specialty Excellence Awards recognize the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide in 17 specialty areas. St. Pat’s has been recognized as:
• Five Star Total Knee Replacement Receiver
• Five Star Recipient for Spinal Fusion Surgery for five consecutive years
• Five-star recipient for treating pneumonia for two consecutive years
• Five Star Recipient for Treating Bowel Obstruction
• Five Star recipient for treating sepsis for 10 years in a row
A five-star rating reflects better than expected clinical results, the press release said. Each year, Healthgrades rates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.
