Montana State’s Brent Vigen and Sean Chambers Receive Big Sky Conference Awards

FARMINGTON, Utah — It’s a bye week for Montana State Football after earning fourth place and a first-round bye in the upcoming FCS playoffs. Montana awaits southeast Missouri in a first round home game Saturday at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

With anticipation growing for the playoffs, the Big Sky Conference announced their individual awards and all-conference teams for 2022 on Wednesday.

Transfer quarterback Sean Chambers and head coach Brent Vigen make headlines for MSU. Chambers, a transfer from Wyoming, was named Newcomer of the Year, while Vigen shared the Coach of the Year award with Sacramento State’s Troy Taylor, whose team won a share of the Big Sky Conference title with MSU.

Chambers came on as a backup quarterback earlier in the season but was fielded alongside No. 1 QB Tommy Mellott thanks to his tremendous run ability between tackles. Chambers rushed for 17 touchdowns that tied for second in the league and fourth in FCS. Chambers is the first Bobcat player to win Newcomer of the Year since Tray Robinson in 2010.

Both Vigen and Taylor received Coach of the Year awards as both went unbeaten in conference play.

Montana and Montana State contributed 27 total conference picks. The Bobcats had 14 players selected while the Grizzlies had 13.
