Aaron Rodgers’ play on the field has regressed this season. At the beginning of this campaign, Rodgers had won the last two MVPs and expectations were high, even without Davante Adams.
Losing Adams has serious consequences for the Green Bay Packers, and they could potentially miss the playoffs this season. Legendary Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin recently blasted the Green Bay Packers for breaking up the Rodgers and Adams duo.
Here’s what Michael Irvin said about Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams on the Richard Sherman Podcast:
“I said that last year when I saw her, I said I have to do it, I’ve never done it, but I finally have to do it. I said man I’m watching the show. I never thought I’d stand on myself like this I’m gonna put someone on the sacred ground of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice.”
Irvin added:
“I never said any other combination up there at the level of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice because we’ve seen them do the same thing, but that group, that group belonged up there for what they were doing, they belonged up there.” and why did you disassemble it?”
Comparing the duo of Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams to Joe Montana and Jerry Rice is certainly high praise. It’s true because the former Packers duo was very special and they thrived over a period of time. With Rodgers and Adams, the Green Bay Packers have been contenders for the Super Bowl every season.
If the Packers had done everything they could to keep Davante Adams this season, they almost certainly would have been in a much better position.
Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams in the 2022 campaign
Aaron Rodgers is having one of the worst seasons of his career. There’s no denying that Davante Adams’ departure to the Las Vegas Raiders helped. Rodgers has a 93.2 passer rating with 2,542 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 11 games this season.
He’s not on the same page as his young receivers and because of that, the Packers aren’t doing well. Although Rodgers and his young receivers have begun to offer some glimpses of their brilliance, it may be too late to salvage their season.
While Davante Adams is still putting up great numbers, it doesn’t mean he’s winning football. The Raiders have been a huge disappointment this season and Adams is unlikely to make the playoffs. Adams has 64 catches for 925 yards and 10 touchdowns in 10 games this season.
Although this season feels like a wasted campaign, the two still have time to improve their luck.
