A man accused of killing his 5-year-old daughter has now scheduled two jury trials for next year. Adam Montgomery is accused of killing his daughter Harmony Montgomery in 2019, but his first trial will be on gun charges. The gun case against Adam Montgomery was supposed to start earlier this month, but in a Tuesday morning hearing, his defense team pointed to last-minute new evidence and asked the court for more time. The judge urged attorneys on both sides to be ready to go to court at the time, with a rifle and a shotgun in 2019, months before he allegedly beat Harmony to death. Last month he was charged with second-degree murder in Harmony’s death. Her remains were not recovered. Defense attorney Caroline Smith told the court that while the gun charges are unrelated to the murder charges, there is an interplay between the information received from witnesses. “The new information changed the case significantly from what I was talking about, additional witnesses that I would probably call,” Smith said. The murder trial is now scheduled to begin in August. Adam Montgomery was not in court at the hearings.–

Adam Montgomery’s gun trial was scheduled to begin earlier this month, but in a Tuesday morning hearing, his defense team pointed to last-minute new evidence and asked the court for more time. This case will now only be heard in June.

Adam Montgomery is accused of being a career armed criminal in connection with the 2019 theft of a rifle and shotgun, months before he allegedly beat Harmony to death.

Last month he was charged with second-degree murder in Harmony’s death. Her remains were not recovered.

Defense attorney Caroline Smith told the court that while the gun allegations were unrelated to the murder allegations, there was an interaction between the information received from witnesses.

“The new information changed the case significantly, so I talked about it, additional witnesses that I would probably call,” Smith said.

The murder trial is now scheduled to begin in August.

Adam Montgomery was not in court at the hearings.
