NE10 Women’s Basketball Report: Week 3

Week 3 – November 28, 2022

NE10 Player of the Week

Ty’zhea Hawkins, Adelphi
graduate student | guard | Brentwood, New York

Hawkins moved into the top two scorers in the NE10 with two games to score 20 or more points in a 2-0 week for Adelphi. She shot a staggering 66.7 percent (22 of 33) from the field and 42.9 percent (3 of 7) from deep while holding game-high in both competitions. Hawkins dropped 24 points in a crushing 70-64 win over Le Moyne at home, then went to an NCAA career-high 32 points (the most for a Panther since 2019) in an 86-67 tumble from Bridgeport. For the week, she averaged 28.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.


NE10 Rookie of the Week

Sara Macary, Franklin Pierce
newbie | Forward/Center | Naugatuck, Conn.

Macary has had consecutive double-digit performances on the scoreboard for the Ravens, contributing a career-high 17 points to their lone matchup win over Saint Michael’s last week. Additionally, the Raven newcomer added five rebounds off the board, along with an assist and a steal.


NE10 Weekly Roll of Honor

Molly Stokes, Adoption (Jr., G – Worcester, Mass.)
Stokes turned off the light from a great distance. In three games this week, the junior shot 50 percent (10 of 20) from beyond the arc, including a 6-for-9 performance against Dominican. Stokes set a new career high for points (24) against Dominican while averaging 16.0 points and 2.0 rebounds to give the Greyhounds their best start to the season since 2012-13 (6-0).

Kari Brekke, Bentley (Gr., G – Appleton, Wisc.)
Over three games, Brekke averaged 15.7 points while shooting .548 overall, .533 from deep and .833 from the line. She had 19 points in a win in Southern New Hampshire, eight in a loss to Eckerd nationally, and 20 in a loss to undefeated Saint Leo.

Leana Heitmann, Franklin Pierce (Fr., G – Pompey, NY)
In the Ravens’ only game last week, Heitmann picked up 17 points to lead the team to a 60-38 win over Saint Michael’s. Along the way, Heitmann adjusted her total assists and rebounds with four each along with three steals in 35 minutes played.

Gabby Turco, Saint Anselm (Jr., G – Wildwood, NJ)
Turco scored 22 points in a convincing win at Pace before the Thanksgiving break, shooting 8-for-11 from the floor and adding eight rebounds in a well-rounded performance. She is currently one of three student-athletes from NE10 institutions to average over 20 points per game.

Anika Kapral, St. Michael (Sr., F – Dummerston, Vt.)
Kapral scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting and added 10 rebounds, including seven offensive, plus a steal and a block in a 60-38 loss at Franklin Pierce on Tuesday.

Katie Williamson, Southern Conn. (Jr., F – Dublin, Ireland)
Williamson hit back-to-back double-doubles in back-to-back wins against Dominican (68-60) and Caldwell (70-50). Williamson averaged 10.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Against Dominican, Williamson had 11 points and 10 rebounds and two steals, and then followed that up with a 10-point 14 rebound outing against Cadwell, in which she also blocked three shots.
