Phillips Exeter Academy
BOSTON, Nov. 23, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Phillips Exeter Academy (PEA) in Exeter, New Hampshire, has a campus-wide mass notification system to immediately alert students, faculty, staff and visitors of emergency situations.
This alarm system consists of powerful outdoor and indoor loudspeakers from ATI Systems, which can be activated in seconds in an emergency. PEA Campus Safety Services simply selects a drop down menu on the ATI computer in the PEA Operations Center, selects from the list of pre-recorded alerts and clicks the button. The whole process takes a few seconds.
The emergency alert is then broadcast across campus, outside buildings, and inside classrooms and hallways. Instructions are given to take shelter on the spot, and the campus implements a pre-planned series of lockdown measures (barricade doors, keep windows open, etc.).
On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, the school conducted the first of its two annual campus lockdown drills required by the state of New Hampshire to be conducted annually. Students, faculty, staff and visitors were instructed on the correct procedure for this exercise.
The pre-recorded alarm was broadcast outdoors across the campus via large ATI public address speakers mounted on campus buildings and utility poles. The indoor alert was heard over a series of indoor speakers mounted in all occupied campus buildings. (The ATI system also has a microphone for live news if needed.) The campus lockdown drill took several minutes to complete, and the ATI Systems speaker solution worked flawlessly.
The Campus Lockdown Drill was led by Phillips Exeter Academy Director of Campus Safety Services and Risk Management Paul Gravel and Safety Operations Manager Andrew Pixley. These gentlemen have been with PEA Campus Safety Services for many years and conduct the Campus Lockdown Drill annually.
Phillips Exeter Academy relies on ATI’s alerting solution. Paul Gravel said: “ATI Systems has been a reliable partner for us for many years. They have an excellent alert system and service, and we trust ATI Systems to help protect our campus community.”
Phillips Exeter Academy and ATI Systems look forward to continuing their long-standing partnership.
